Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an Age Limit for Hair Transplantation?
The procedure is suitable for a wide range of ages, but it is important to ensure that the scalp is healthy and that the hair follicles in the donor area (usually the back of the head) are in good condition. The minimum recommended age for men is around 25, after hormonal changes tend to stabilize — which reduces the risk of future hair loss in the transplanted areas.
What Causes Hair Loss?
Hair loss can result from a combination of genetic, hormonal, and environmental factors. The most common cause is Androgenetic Alopecia – hereditary hair loss caused by the sensitivity of hair follicles to the DHT hormone. In addition, hair loss may occur as a result of conditions such as Stress, nutritional deficiencies, hormonal changes (such as after childbirth), scalp conditions, or the use of certain medications.
Does Hair Transplantation Provide a Permanent Result?
In most cases, yes. The grafts are taken from areas of the scalp that are not affected by the DHT hormone responsible for hair loss — therefore, the transplanted hair continues to grow naturally. However, future hair loss in other areas may continue to develop, and in some cases an additional transplant may be needed later on.
What is the Success Rate of the Transplant?
In advanced clinics in Israel, the success rate of a hair transplant can reach over 90%. Key factors influencing the success of the procedure include:
- Quality of the follicles
- Precision of the technique
- Experience of the treating physician
- Adherence to post-procedure care instructions
What are the Possible Causes of Transplant Failure?
A transplant may fail due to:
- Weak grafts or grafts extracted incorrectly
- An unsuitable transplant technique
- A scalp that is not flexible enough or insufficiently nourished
- Insufficient post-procedure care
- Poor initial diagnosis or lack of suitability
Performing preliminary tests such as trichoscopy, trichogram, or biopsy can reduce the risk and ensure full suitability.
What Techniques Exist and What are Their Advantages?
The leading techniques today are:
- FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) – extraction and implantation of individual follicles without leaving scars, with especially fast recovery
- Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) – an advanced version of FUE that enables precise implantation using a dedicated device (“Choi Pen”)
- Hybrid Punch – a combination of techniques to achieve maximum results
- FUT – An older method that involves removing a strip of skin. Today it is less common due to the risk of scarring.
The choice of technique depends on hair density, scalp type, hair structure, and the patient’s preferences.
